postheadericon Here comes Santa! Maybe.

‘Twas a few days before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring. Except for Quincy.

His new favorite thing is to scale the glass brick wall in the bathroom. I guess this is when he tires of his Invisi-Cat Shield. Better view up here, but it is a little hard to snag pets who pass by.

Maybe this is a good thing for a kitteh trying really hard to be good for Santa.

Those days of kittenhood mischief, antagonizing the dogs, and destroying the toilet paper rolls are over.

Or are they?

postheadericon Psssst! Penguins!

Today’s blog post is not the typical Sophie-Argos-Purl-Quincy-Barnie antics. Well, OK. Here’s one.

Today I am spotlighting my sister’s work. She is a graphic designer who, for the last two and a half decades, has worked in publishing, designing books. As much as I love books, I have to admit I was first in line for an e-reader. Much to the chagrin of my sister.

But seriously… no more shipping charges, no more overflowing bookshelves, and so light and easy to carry several books on a trip. It is hard to resist the lush color and photography that pop out of the book apps on the iPad, too.

And penguins! Who can resist penguins?

For the e-book, Our Amazing World: Penguins, Kris collaborated with Dr. Wayne Lynch, a former emergency room doctor, science writer, wildlife photographer and author of many books, including a penguin book written in 1997.

Here is the latest penguin book, first of a series titled “Our Amazing World” that will feature animal and travel topics.

I didn’t know what to expect – I figured 10 to 12 pages of gorgeous photos and captions, but was quite surprised to find 65 stunning pages, with photos of all types of penguins, from around the world. Even penguins in forests and deserts(!).

Each page has a caption and then a more in-depth description ‘below’ (swipe the page downward) the photo. There is a lot of penguin information here.

This book is great for the penguin-lover and penguin-newbie. This book is also great for kids, students, photographers, and budding photographers, like me. Something to aspire to, even if I never travel to these beautiful, faraway locations.

Share the Penguins!

Great gift idea (and no shipping charges)
This 65-page full color ebook is available on iTunes for just $2.99. Great gift for yourself, friends and family!

There are a limited number of review (promo code) copies available. Please contact Kris to discuss obtaining a review copy.

Disclosure: I purchased this app for this review. (No promo code for me.) Kris is my sister, but I am not financially affiliated with her, this book, or Matchbook Digital LLC.

postheadericon The Greyhound Bus Stops Here

Contrary to what many people think, Greyhounds, even ex-racers, are not high-strung wild dogs. They don’t need to run laps and laps every day. In fact, they are well known for being the “45-mile-per-hour couch potatoes,” preferring to live out their retirements in the sleepy luxury of comfy dog beds.

Or sometimes… our couch.

Argos took some time to get up the gumption to take over the couch. Purl, eyeing Argos and the comfort that awaited on the couch, wasted no time.

Poor babies having to share the space! While the humans sit elsewhere.

Yes, we are comfy. Well, I am. Thank you for asking.

Sometime later…

Argos settles in for a long winter nap.

Purl, side view. What a smile!

postheadericon A Really Good Walk

Dogs are so easy to please. A coat (for Greyhounds) + my time to go for a walk = happiness.

The site of a Really Interesting Sound

The site of a Really Good Smell

The Really Good Smell captured their attention for about 30 seconds! All I could see were some deer tracks. Thank goodness no one found anything to snack on.

That would have ended the Really Good Walk quickly.

postheadericon Cat Napper

Quincy loves a good cat nap as much as the next cat. He loves this little fleecy bed. So much so that he will nap in it wherever it is. Usually this works out just fine. Sometimes though, a little peace and quiet -in the middle of the laundry room- is hard to come by.

Of course, I find his cuteness hard to resist. Just a few quick photos woke the sleeping beast. But he pretended not to be disturbed.

Even after talking to him and petting him, he refused to rouse from his cat nap.

I wish I could fall back asleep so easily…

From the cats I learn the value of a good cat nap.

From the dogs I learn to live in the moment and that you must go for a walk every single day.

Now I wonder… what do the pets learn from me? hmmm

postheadericon Halloween Ho Ho Ho

I know that am in the minority, but I don’t like Halloween.

For one, I am a huge scaredy cat. I can’t read or watch anything even remotely scary because it goes on in my imagination, haunting me. I also hate costumes and dressing up. Even as a kid. Or maybe because of those costumes we had to wear as kids with those awful plastic masks… ech.

But it isn’t all horrible. I love pumpkins – carving them and eating pumpkin-y baked goods. I also love candy. All of those ‘fun sizes’ are just irresistible.

Today’s post is a look back to the only time I have ‘dressed up’ the pets, thanks in large part to my husband who thought it would be cute to try out the reindeer antlers on the pets.

Let’s take a look

postheadericon Hellooo Weekend

I love that “it’s the weekend!” feeling.

It must be how dogs feel every day…

Oh, the possibilities!
