But if Purl is first on a bed, this seems to signal an invitation to the cats, especially Quincy.

Argos, who we refer to as The Dog of Luxury, also knows how to just relax and fit in as the situation dictates.

So Purl gives it a go and finds a bed to call her own, a bed abandoned by Quincy and Barnie.

She circles several times and lies down. Repeats this cycle 3 more times to get it just right, but…

As soon as the humans vacated the couch, she was on it in a flash. Comfort at last!

And in case you were thinking that all my pets do is sleep, here is a recent video of Sophie, Purl and Argos enjoying a snow day.

Meanwhile, Barnie is still thinking about thumbs.

And This Bed is Just Right

Oh wait… napping and being lazy is part of each and every day for the pets here (punctuated by walks and hikes, but mostly the easy life).

Not A Creature Was Stirring

Argos took some time to get up the gumption to take over the couch. Purl, eyeing Argos and the comfort that awaited on the couch, wasted no time.

Poor babies having to share the space! While the humans sit elsewhere.

Yes, we are comfy. Well, I am. Thank you for asking.

Argos settles in for a long winter nap.

The Really Good Smell captured their attention for about 30 seconds! All I could see were some deer tracks. Thank goodness no one found anything to snack on.

A Really Good Walk

For one, I am a huge scaredy cat. I can’t read or watch anything even remotely scary because it goes on in my imagination, haunting me. I also hate costumes and dressing up. Even as a kid. Or maybe because of those costumes we had to wear as kids with those awful plastic masks… ech.

But it isn’t all horrible. I love pumpkins – carving them and eating pumpkin-y baked goods. I also love candy. All of those ‘fun sizes’ are just irresistible.

Today’s post is a look back to the only time I have ‘dressed up’ the pets, thanks in large part to my husband who thought it would be cute to try out the reindeer antlers on the pets.

The Greyhounds have learned so much from Sophie; how to wait politely for treats, how nice it is to greet people in the park (and get petted!), how much fun walks are. And this is no different. Again, Sophie teaches the hounds how to take care of their humans.

School Bus Countdown

Argos, in particular, requires cushy comfort wherever he is. Want to calm him down in a new situation? A loud gathering? A boat on the water? Throw a bed down. Ahhhhh! He goes right to it, and gets comfy. He was even gifted his very own special bed by my friend.

Not to worry – we have several pet beds, but not one in every room. I lug the beds around depending on where we are going to settle for a bit. But sometimes I forget. Sometimes we are in a room… without a dog bed.

Argos acts insulted, sighing heavily a few times, pacing around, doing some turns before giving up and laying on the carpet. Oh, the things he must endure. Argos will stay in a room with a dog bed instead of joining the rest of us without a dog bed. Until he can resist it no longer.

Because of this, he sometimes gets beat for the best spot, as what happened the other day. Purl wasted no time getting in on the comfy-ness.

Early Purl Gets the… Comfy Bed

Sweet Sophie, as she has done for the last 9 years, resumed her position by the window to watch for the school bus. She started this job shortly after we adopted her, waiting for the bus at the end of the driveway that would take kids to kindergarten and first grade.

A few years later, that became not so cool, waiting for the bus with your mom. So Sophie and I resumed position in the house; me with a friendly wave to the driver, and Sophie with an eagle eye on the kids and the bus.

Today it was the first day of 7th and 8th grade. Time flies! Sophie still feels the need to watch for the kids and the bus.

This year, Sophie had a bus-watching apprentice. Purl was quite excited to see what the fuss was all about.

Argos, as usual, had some napping to catch up on. But he cares, too. In his own Argos-like way.
